Ghaziabad: The moral police was back in
Ghaziabad as the cops went on an Operation Majnu, catching couples unaware and
handing them some on-the-spot punishment, all in the name of curbing eve
teasers.
It could have been a nice lazy afternoon for many lovers at Sahibabad Park in
Ghaziabad, but Alka Pandey, a Station Officer with the Uttar Pradesh police
played the spoilsport.
For the past three days, the Ghaziabad Police led by Pandey has been on what
she calls a mission 'to cleanse the city of eveteasing'.
Couples have been caught unawares at parks and malls, and handed punishment
without a care for their dignity.
Pandey claims moral policing is being done to 'stop innocent girls from being
trapped by boys with evil intentions'.
In the past, the Uttar Pradesh Police has carried out similar operations in
Meerut, Muzaffarnagar and Aligarh.
The self-styled moral police, storming gift shops on Valentine's Day, clubs
and bars have unleashed violence in cities. But when it's the police doing the
moral policing, chances are you could be harassed anywhere when you least expect
it
